New generation of Global Indians

One of the benefits of bringing up children in the US is the exposure and education they receive. Here is an e-mail from a Hyderabadi who lives in Fremont:
” Here are a few comments of my four and a half year old..
Â
We were taking about Spain and Meera says Mama did you know Pablo Picasso is also from Spain and his dad was a teacher? Pablo Picasso loved to paint?! Well I know who Picasso was, but did not know his first name nor that his dad was a teacher.
Â
She looks a piggy bank that aunt gave her and says that this is from China. I said how do you know? She says look at the script – This is Chinese!
Â
Then she shows me a dime – [Now I still get confused between a dime and a nickel] – she says do you know this is a dime? Do you know who the president is on this? I said like anyone who grew up in India – George Washington?
She said no – Thomas Jefferson! I said now go check if Papa knows.. and sure enough his answer was no different from Mama’s. She then says the Penny has George Washington as President. ”
