Travel Planning – Go Green Tips

Adventure Travel
Ninety–eight million people within the last five years hiked, biked, white-water rafted, and kayaked all over the planet. Adventure travel forces travelers to become actively engaged with new cultures and environments, as well as hopefully becoming more aware and respectful of the outdoors.
Camera
Use a digital camera instead of one that needs film. Some 686 million rolls of film are processed each year, and the solutions used to make the prints often contain hazardous chemicals that require special treatment and disposal. Avoid using disposable cameras. Despite the claim on the box that they’re recycled, more than half end up in the trash.
Cruise
Try an eco-friendly sailing cruise rather than a vacation aboard a cruise ship. Sailing cruises carry fewer passengers and don’t disrupt ports and sea nearly as much as giant cruise ships, which can spill oil and sewage and disturb fish habitats. Nearly twelve million people take cruises each year, using some 170 cruise liners. A single ship consumes several thousand gallons of fuel – per hour.
Eco –Tourism
Try eco-tourism, which focuses on local culture and promotes environmental awareness. You’ll get a different perspective and potentially save money. Eco-travel features destinations that aren’t overcrowded or overran. It draws attention to environmentally sensitive areas and pumps approximately $250 billion into the economies of developing countries.
